The massive dark hollow that was the castle's dining hall rested in the dark for a long while, the candles on the table like a road wavering and surrounded by an infinite black. At times, a great pillar, one of many that supported the structure somewhere along the walls, would groan into the cold atmosphere. A candle would die, and the rest shiver while it hissed and turned to black.
Somewhere, from the cavern walls, the slight sound of footsteps resonated.
At once, the last candle to die out sparked into light, waving over the table a new dim warmth. Another and then another candle gasped into light. Soon the whole of the chamber sighed and gave way to the warmth, now emanating in a wave of awakening flames laid across the table that backed the darkness into the corners.
The footsteps grew louder; Soon the faint sound of two voices could be heard.
Tapestry unfurled like a curtain onto the solid wall, wavering and displaying the royal insignia. What dark spaces might have concealed now shimmered in the majesty and light of a new chamber. It was this chamber that Prince Phobos walked into:
Swoosh
The great door opened and in came Phobos. He was greeted by a lively warmth not present in the hall, so he blinked once in adjustment. He smiled and moved to the side.
Now the whole magnificence of the Dining Hall was presented to Elyon, whom he beckoned in with a smile.
"Come have a seat."

[Enter: Cedric from the Desert Chamber]
"Here, Elyon," Cedric pulled out a chair for her, after Phobos stepped aside with a welcoming smile across his face.
Cedric turned his head to the candles that lit the room perfectly. The flames were in lined, marching rows, lighting even the slightest corner. The entire Dining Hall itself seemed like more than a place just for eating. Even Cedric himself felt it necessary to stare in awe around the room.
What a beautiful place...

Elyon blinked a few times in amazement. She didn't remember this hall being this... awe-inspiring... It's probably the lighting... "Hmm?" she turned her head in Cedric's direction, seeing how he pulled out a seat for her. "Oh, Cedric... No. No... You really don't need to do that." she responded at his humble action. She took the seat nonetheless, however, and smiled at him to signify that her comment was still on friendly basis. "You don't have to treat me like this." she repeated. "I'm still an ordinary girl, you know..."

"Oh no! You are a princess, Elyon!" Cedric smiled upon her. "And a true princess at that. You are...perfection." He stared down on her for a few minutes. Did he...did he want to...?
Prince Phobos! The thought came to Cedric so suddenly he jumped. Her brother would be angry with me...
"But of course you are! You are the Meridian princess!" He added quickly, glancing at Phobos nervously every other second. "Now, let us eat!"
Cedric tore his piece of bread apart hastily and stuffed it in his mouth as adequetly as he could get eating that rushed.
"This is great, isn't it?!" He said as soon as he swallowed it.

"Princess or not..." Elyon started, before chewing away some bread too. "I'm still sitting here with prince Phobos, and lord Cedric." she giggled for a moment and gulped down some milk. Yes, she was still a bit hungry... "So in comparison, to you, I'm nothing too special. "

Cedric laughed a bit. "But I don't want you thinking you're anything like those friends of yours. You're beyond them." He smiled with a mellow expression and softed eyes. "You're truly a princess..."
He glanced at Phobos and took another bite.
I need to be careful, he told himself while rolling his eyes.

Phobos alertly watched with a two weary eyes as the conversation unfurled, his eyes shifting from Elyon to Cedric as each followed a connection of ideas Phobos could play out in his mind. They were connecting, quite rapidly, and in order for his plans to succeed, this was vital. Vital beyond any possible emphasis.
His interest waned as the initial sign of courtesy done by Cedric was followed by his sister's humble reaction, a natural reaction, Phobos thought, for such a naive view of her position: "I'm still an ordinary girl, you know..."
He drew a heavy chalice to his mouth while scrutinizing her choice of words and closed his eyes to hear his thoughts through Cedric's too panned-out reply: "Oh no! You are a princess, Elyon!"
He was content. He ran the tip of his tongue past his lip and closed his eyes tighter. The two voices hummed like strings as his perception slipped to the true shadows of the great hall, the dark matter that cast the illusion of light and warmth into the room. He breathed in the scent of the tainted wood in the rotting columns and then the breathed out the tint of the wine. It would mingle with the limp tapestry that hung from the ceiling, though it was cast as light and glory for his visitor...
Phobos opened his eyes. Sure enough, the chamber was luminous and as warm as you please. He turned to Cedric in time to see him rolling his eyes.

"My friends.." Elyon repeated after Cedric. She looked down on her plate for a moment. "I still can't believe how much they've changed in those few days..." she sighed as the events of the afternoon came to mind once more. "Oh! That reminds me..." she looked up and looked at Cedric questioningly. "What was that 'heart' thing you were talking about? The one Will was supposed to have?"

"Oh," Cedric coughed. "That. That would be the Heart of Kandracar. Will is their leader, and the one destined to kill your brother," he glanced at Phobos.
I did have to make up a story, you know. I couldn't tell her our plans.
Cedric explained his story to Elyon about the guardians, the evil beings sent to destroy Meridian by the oracle himself, who had tried to kill Phobos once before. Each guardian was to perish Meridian by using their elemental powers, but Will, being the most powerful, was to kill the prince himself.
"The Heart is her weapon against Phobos. It has some of the oracle's power in it, and it's definitely enough to kill him," he glanced at Phobos again. He wasn't really sure if he should put more emotion into it as he did on Earth. Just the thought of crying right in front of Phobos was embarassing.
So he lowered his head and sighed. "I don't want to see him," he looked up at Phobos with a sad, innocent expression, "I don't want to see you nearly die again."
...No, hugging him's too much. That one time was just a close call. Hmm...
"Phobos, I--" Cedric choked on his words as he put his face into his hand to stop the "tears" from spilling out.

I understand...
Phobos glanced at Cedric with a face he managed to make sympathetic. He looked to see Elyon quickly and then Cedric again.
"Cedric, loyal Cedric. What remains of this royal family will always sleep sound," His eyes shifted down, but he kept his majestic air about him. "while under your unwavering arms."
He breathed a heavy breath and his lips tightened.
"I can only be grateful that my dear sister is unscathed..." Here he turned to Elyon, his two eyes soft and speaking of a distant passion, a sorry story, of untold struggles which could only be remembered with watering, now closed, eyes.
"...untouched, by those cold horrors we have so long battled..."
He glanced warmly at his sister, then at Cedric, and finally back at Elyon with the warmest, saddest twist of the lips.
Send her off to sleep, Loyal Cedric!

Elyon briefly fell silent at the two men's story. "I'm sorry..." she said. "I didn't mean to-- I'm sorry..."
She quickly stuffed her mouth with some more food to prevent her asking something else that could get Cedric upset. Every time he turned away to cry because of what she said, she couldn't help but feel that stinging ache of guilt in her torso. And this time, Phobos too! Even though she'd been here only for a few days, she didn't like to upset Phobos too. It made the guilt feel heavier...

Cedric jolted out of his "emotional" state at Phobos' final demand.
Send her off to sleep, Loyal Cedric!
For a minute, something formed in his throat, pushing out the very air he was breathing. He wrenched his jaws back together, making a muffled crunching sound in his teeth; it sounded as he teeth were crunched broken. The air returned to his throat through his gasping voice.
He turned to Elyon with a horrified look on his face, but immediately replaced it with a hopeful smile. "Those memories are quite distant," he eyes sparkled once again, dusting away the hollow memories of the past...
He did as Elyon did and ate some more. "This is great!" He laughed after swallowing once again, as if nothing happened.

Phobos' head turned in Cedric's direction ,and for a while the chamber was silent. He peered blankly at his subject, and though his hallow countenance wasn't showing it, there was a more-than-mild curiosity kindling inside him. Some seconds passed, and then Phobos distorted his face into a smile, a nothing out of the ordinary smile.
"Yes Cedric quite the meal." He laughed.
And his eye squinted in the slightest sign of disgust.

So what if he's disgusted with me? Cedric took another bite and gave the so-called noble prince a hateful look, but only went that far. Fear returned back into his eyes when he remembered just what the prince had power to do to him.
A silent dinner. That's what this was for next few minutes.
Elyon, say something, Cedric told her through telepathy. He knew Phobos had warned him about it before, but it couldn't take as bad as an effect as last time if he didn't use too much of it, right? Break the silence...
But what he really wanted was to simply hear her innocent and comforting voice. In fact, her voice was like music to him--every conversation they had was a song--he wanted nothing more than to keep hearing her musical voice. Agony and guilt serged through him, causing a terrible and stinging pain all through his body. His heart jumped and he felt quite nauseous. Just the thought of sweet and saintly Elyon, the one who lifted his hopes of seeing a brighter day, dying; taken away from him...
