"Oh well I don't know...."
Will looked around as if her peers would know the answer. He seemed to be picking on her right now and it was making her uncomfortable. She began to wish that she had read the textbook more clearly...

"Yeah, me neither." Cedric replied. "Or at least I can't remember at the moment." He went back to his - or Collins' - desk and sat down. "There is one thing that annoys me." He said. "I'm not supposed to teach you about the war - at least not thoroughly, because it's considered to be one of the things only senior students can comprehend fully. That's a nonsense, if you ask me. What, are students too immature to learn about the truths of life? On the contrary, they should be taught as while they're still interested. I remember how excited I was to read about such things when I was a boy." Like hell. "There is another reason too... But we're not here to discuss that, are we?" Cedric smiled at everybody. "Now give your teacher a short break and read whatever you can find about the war in your books. After that, we'll continue. And try to read, not study."

The students began to shuffle through their books. Will turned to a page and began to read. It wasn't long before she felt her concentration ebbing away when she thought of something.
Maybe she could do it...force her thoughts from all the way in here.
Will tried to read some more before thinking that she would try it.
"Taranee? Can you hear me?"

"No actually. Collins is going on and on about History. He has asked me more than once to answer questions, but he has been strange toward me for quite a while now. He said he was tired and not feeling well..."

Cedric leaned back in his chair and observed the class. Looks like this time he managed to be a better teacher than before. This was pretty much a normal lesson, with nothing unusual happening. It raised one question - what was the point to disguise anyway? Maybe he'd have learned more if he'd have turned invisible and spied, just like Elyon.
Cedric knew the answer, there was no need to ask. He just wanted to get away from everything that tied him to Phobos. These humiliating tasks and baby-sitting didn't seem as important when doing something as simple as teaching. Cedric yawned. He had to sweep through the class and ask everyone some questions, to avoid Will and Cornelia's suspicion but he didn't feel like it. Other students didn't mean anything to him. If only he could find a way to separate the guardians from everyone else... And then, as planned, bring them to the museum. He didn't know how yet. Obviously the other three already warned Will and Cornelia about his strange behavior, so coming up with some 'special history project' thing wouldn't have worked. They'd simply refuse. But what if they'd have no choice? As their teacher, he could give them a detention. But Cedric needed a reason.
How about provoking them? No, that would have worked with Irma, but not everyone was as impolite. Cedric also couldn't accuse them for not doing homework, because there was no homework - or at least he didn't know about it.
So I'll have to use magic again. Cedric thought. A pity. But this still had to be done without causing suspicion.
"Alright, students, I changed my mind." 'Collins' said. "We'll make the lesson a bit... more interesting. Everybody, pick a partner."

Will looked up from the book that she had been staring at while talking to Taranee. The students started moving around and picking partners and Cornelia moved toward her and Will nodded.
"I wonder what we're doing."

"Ah...what? No way! Collins was a complete and total nut. Not to mention a pervert. Maybe he's toning so more people don't pick up on it.... Taranee and Hay Lin, you were there! Tell her how freaky Collins was acting."

"Now that everyone has a partner," 'Collins' said "Imagine a situation... I am going to ask a question. Everyone must answer the question without consulting with his partner. The first one in a pair to get three answers right, will win and proceed. The losers will step out of the game and... yes, they'll have to prepare long and terribly detailed reports about the aftermath of World War II. So it's more like a contest, not a work-in-pairs. The questions won't be simple, with one correct answer. Make sure to write at least three sentences to each question."
Cedric closed his eyes and tried to remember everything he could about Earth's history. "Oh, right. One more thing. The questions won't be about the World War II only. And I'm not examining your knowledge, I'm examining your strategical and tactical skills. In history, everything was about strategy. When to attack, when not to attack, when to accept a new religion, when to poison your father and take the throne - it was all strategy and tactics. That's how we know names like Julius Caesar. And now, I want to know which ones of you have a higher possibility to become an important part of your... our history."
d**n it. Cedric looked at the guardians nervously. What's wrong with me today?
"That said, let's begin!" 'Collins' clapped his hands and began. "The Empire of Rome. You are a member of the senate - a group of patrician nobles. The senate would be the ruling force in a republic. However, Rome is now an empire, ruled by... eh, I forgot the full name. Caligula. Caligula, who used to be a fair and noble emperor for two years, but then he lost his mind and started destroying the empire from within, committing one strange act after another. He wants everyone to call him a god. He wants every member of the senate to write a will, leaving all their riches to the empire's treasury, if the person would die. Then he starts killing the members one after another. Since you're a member too, you're in serious risk. So... the question is simple - what do you do? Do you conspire against the emperor? Try to gain his trust? Do nothing and expect him to come back to his senses? Flee from Rome? Leave the Senate? The choice is yours."

Will turned to Cornelia, completely flabbergasted. Should she say to go against the emperor? That could always turn out disastrous...Maybe to leave or flee? But then the problem wouldn't be solved and everybody else would die...doing nothing would mean solving nothing and possibly getting killed in the process...gaining trust was a possibility, but how would you be able to help the situation afterward?
Will looked up at the clock. There wasn't much time left until school was over.
"Do you have any idea, Cornelia?" Will asked. She then focussed inwardly into her own thoughts frantically.
"Well forget that now, Taranee did you hear him? Do you know a good answer?"

Um... flee Rome I guess. It's going to fall eventually.

Will snorted and started laughing. She soon tried to compose herself and Cornelia looked at her in confusion.
"Nice, Taranee. True but I don't think that's an answer. Anyway, the bell is going to ring in just a few minutes..."

"Agreed. See you guys in a few. I've got swim practice right after school. I'll tell Cornelia too so we can walk out and figure out what to do."
Will cut off the connection and looked up again at the clock. She was sure Collins would throw the question at her...
