Instead of being Vathek *sub: Phobos (or whoever), wouldn't it be better if we list all the characters we're subbing beneath the signature? The avatar can only be so long. It may prove bothersome to those who sub for many characters.
The members who have no characters & only act as subs for every character is a good idea. Yet, I think it might be best if every inactive character to have a permanent sub. This way we don't have a Cornelia played by ten different people. If a sub ever goes inactive, then he/she can always be replaced by a currently active member.

Above your avatar is the easiest place to see. Feel free to put your characters beneaith your siggy too, especially if it doesn't fit.

Well with the permanent subbing, you don't sub for any specific character (although you can continue subbing for Phobos). What those subs do is go around and see where any character posts are needed if they haven't posted in a while. When posting in place of a character, the permanent subs would say which character they are subbing for at the top of every post.
Like for you, you can change your display name to either "Vathek/Shapeshifter" or "Vathek/Altermere" and put the character name of whomever you are subbing for at the top of each post when you sub

How bout this? I change my name to Vathek/Shapeshifter & I list all my permanent subs beneath my signature? If I decide that an inactive member needs to respond somewhere, then I'll PM an administrator for permission first before I proceed. Would that work?

Actually, I'll just use Shapeshifter. It sounds better that way.
