RRRAAAGGHHH!!!
The distant cry of what sounded like a dinosaur screamed across Heatherfield, starting from the downtown dump and reaching the skyscraping Simultech Office.
"What in the world was that?" Susan did something she hadn't done in years. She clutched onto Thomas Vandom's arm. He had come back yet again to "apologize," but Susan knew it was all a lie. Immediately she let go of him.
"Susan--" Before he could continue, Amanda busted through the doors, screaming, "There's some kind of giant snake thrashing near the beach!!!"
"What?" Susan started immediately after her, and Thomas close by her. It was as if he'd disappeared. All she could think about was if Will was alright.
At first she thought it all insanity: What if Amanda was just making it up, and Susan was just hearing things? But once she, Amanda and Thomas were out of the building, outside of the toll box, they saw a chaos of people in opposite directions: some away from the beach, and some towards it. Susan decided to go towards the beach, the other two following.
"Let's take my car," Tom offered. Susan didn't think twice and hopped into red sports car. Amanda rode with them too.
"What's going on?'
They were both silent. Susan's heart was pounding.
Please let her be safe.
Their mouths gaped at what they saw when they reached the beach. Camramen, newcasters, gawkers, and helacopters circled a scene of five of what looked like giant butterflies and a giant snake fighting (It looked more like a lizard to Susan).
Tom peered out the front window to the sky. "No way..." he murmured.
"What?"
"I think...I think one of those fairies is our daughter!!"
"What?! Will!!" Susan jumped out of the car, Tom after her.
"Will!!!" She called. He also called her name. Will flew down lower and realized it was too late. Why hide it now? All of Heatherfield had finally figured out that all the strange things happening around them were not hallucinations. She swallowed and faced her parents.
"Will!" Irma warned. Will put up her hand and said to the group: "You guys, they've seen everything now! There's no hiding it now..."
She flew down to her parents.
"Will?" Her father looked at her with panicked eyes. "There's wings...shooting out of your back..."
Will nodded. "I'm a guardian of the veil..." She told them the story of how they had discovered they were guardians, how and why Elyon disappeared (and how Phobos was the reason), how being a guardian had changed her so much...
"....how it changed all of us," Irma came down and said somberly. Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin nodded in unison. Their parents had listened behind Will's in shock.
"All this time..." Judge Cook started. Taranee nodded, trying not to cry.
Cedric stopped trying to attack the helacopters and realized what the guardians were doing. "Ssssso, you hid it thissss whole time..."
He actually hadn't realized this, because he, like Phobos, was so concentrated on Elyon. Somehow their admitting their role as the guardians was putting an end to something...
Cedric transformed back. The people gasped.
"Put your hands in air!" A policeman commanded. Cedric obeyed. For some reason, it looked like guardians would have more freedom with all of Earth by their side. Meridian was already against him, and Phobos was no where to be found...
"Wait!" Taranee said. The policeman stopped and looked at her. She looked at the rest of the guardians and said, "It's not our government's job to take care of him. It's Elyon's."
They all nodded and Irma explained to her parents (as well as the others') that Cedric was from Meridian, therefore they should deal with him.
Will realized for the first time her father was there. For a minute they stared, and then her father spoke: "Will, I came back to apologize and say good bye for the last time. I realize know what I've done to you, and I'm sorry. I also realize that you and your mother are much happier with Dean as your legal stepfather."
His mouth curved up in a small smile. "I even heard about your little brother." They both realized that it was Dean (the peacemaker) who had told him all this. "Today is the day I will leave you four, once and for all."
Through all that she's been through with her dad, Will's heart warmed when he included Dean and her little brother as her family. But it slowly went sad when she realized he also excluded himself.
"I didn't buy you anything, because I knew you'd only feel it was another lie, like all of the other so-called gifts I've given you." Though they didn't know it, saying that stung his heart more than any infected flesh wound ever could. "So I'll give you something you can't through away: an apology and a farewell."
Biting the inside of his cheek, he didn't know whether to hug them or not, and decided against it. Suddenly Will put her arms around him as tears rolled down her cheek. He hugged her back, just as passionately. It hurt to know he'd never get to see her again, but he knew he deserved it.
In all of the years Susan had known him, she had never known him to be so brave, so she embraced him as well. Not have as tight and longing as on their wedding night, but it showed that a new respect for him had replaced her former hatred. He gave them one last small smile before turning and walking out of their lives for good.
After a few minutes of silence, Will said, "I have to take care of something." Susan nodded and knew it had to do something with this guardian-of-the-veil thing.
Using a glowing, crystal amulet, Will formed a massive blue hole into the sky and she and the girls walked a blonde guy with a ponytail through it. The one who was a giant monster a couple of minutes ago. A revelation came across Principal Knickerbocker, who was bustling behind them.
"Why, I've seen that face before! Wasn't he the owner of the abandoned bookshop?"
"You're right!"
"How terrible!"
"Why him?!"
"He was so cute!"
"Who knew he was some kind of monster?" A chorus of voices shouted (most were girls from Sheffield Institute).
Amanda sighed. "I'm going home. Would you like me to drive you...?"
"No, no, it's fine," Susan waved her hand. "I'm going to wait for Will."
Susan wasn't sure what the future behold, and by the look of everyone's faces, neither were the other parents. But she was certain of one thing: no matter what crazy secrets came about her daughter, she'd always be her mother.
Susan smiled. It was going to be a long, crazy night.
