The scent of Jarod reaches her nostrils. With a howl to the moon, she leap into the air & becomes a hawk. She takes wing.

[Enter: Cedric from the Servants' Corner]
The trail lead to the outside, any prisoners' favorite escape. He recognized the luscious trees that crowded at the castle's corner. Long ago, before Phobos even knew about the stupid crown and its power, he and Cedric would come up with various games to play, most of them involving these very same trees--
A howl ripped the night in half. They were no werewolves in Meridian. There weren't even typical wolves in Meridian. There were only shapeshifters. And the only two remaining shapeshifters in the world were he and Miranda. Despite his very recent feud, he had to wonder if she was on the mission...
He used his long distance telepathy, something he didn't use often enough. Miranda! Miranda, do you hear me?
Nothing. She was too far. But there was only one way to go if you went on this path: straight ahead. That lead to the outer walls.

[Enter: Cedric and MIranda from the Outer Walls]
"You're a genius for finding this trail, Miranda..." He knew she wouldn't respond, so he kept going.

[Enter: Cedric and Elyon from the castle]
"If we go into the forest a bit further, there'll a clearing. It's perfect because it'll conceal us but a mass of the brightest stars shine down upon it, so we can still see what we're doing."
He grabbed Elyon's hand. "Don't let go of me. It's easy to get lost here."

[Enter: Lord Cedric from The Forest]
Cedric hurried to the castle, where his room with all its wonders was - a dark and comfortable place with no voices and no lights, no one to throw insults at you and expect you to smile afterwards. No unpleasant thoughts.
Speaking of unpleasant thoughts, one in particular just couldn't leave Cedric's mind. Vathek. Yes, Vathek and what the hell was he talking about? Cedric knew Vathek for a long time now - as a ruthless warrior and a loyal servant. But now, the past few days changed the big brute. And Cedric couldn't help but wonder why. The only change that happened around was... Well, it was Elyon. Was it because of her? Cedric knew about some big people having a weakness for things like that. Well, an innocent girl, surrounded by deceivers from all sides sure was a knock at the door of conscience. But Vathek... Was he really this soft?
"d**n you, fool." Cedric whispered. "I guess I can't trust anyone but myself after all."
Trust... Yes, Cerdic actually trusted Vathek - as a friend. They had so much in common, but now... Code of honor? Where did that come from? Victory was the ultimate honor - Vathek used to say that himself. But why is he talking like that now? Now, of all times? When Cedric really needs a friendly face?
So he couldn't trust Vathek anymore, is that right? But why? What could he do anyway? If he truly thinks... that they're doing something wrong, Vathek would probably try to change that...
Cedric approached the main gate and the castle stood before him in all its might. Cedric smiled - he loved that sight. The high towers, the inner courtyard, filled with soldiers, the faint smell of blood in the air, coming from the prison. Not many could feel that smell. And that was a good thing, because...
And then a brilliant but very unpleasant idea struck him out of nowhere.
"Oh my god!" Cedric screamed to himself and turned pale (yet again). "He wouldn't!!!" Oh, he would. His mind replied. And he will. And he is probably doing that right now... You fool.
Cedric quickly looked back, but understood that it would take him at least eight minutes to get back to the clearing. And it would take two to reach Phobos with his arsenal of spells of teleportation.

[Enter: Caleb from the mountains]
Even with all the secret passages and ancient stairways only he knew about (well, he and Frost), it still took Caleb some time to get there. Now he stopped to rest a bit. Seriously, whatever happened to Frost? Sure, Caleb knew about his death. But for some reason why and how evaded his memory. Frost turned out to be one of those honor and pride kind of guys, with a code or something like that to follow. Yeah, codes give you a lot of special conditions that make everything harder - but at least everything becomes worthy of respect. Caleb didn't have a code. The enemies he was fighting weren't worthy of any respect. No one duels a rat - one simply kills it. And that was Caleb's intention right now.
He sat down and fetched an apple from his backpack. Somehow, most of his memories were very unclear. Caleb could remember things that happened some time ago - but most of what's happened in the past few days was covered in darkness. Maybe it'll come back in time, but Caleb wasn't even sure if he wanted that to happen. What changed his people so much? They used to be honorable. They used to be brave. Now, they're just a bunch of pathetic cowards, no better than the soldiers. No better than slaves. Well, if Phobos wants them, might as well keep them. A long time ago, Caleb would have done everything to save them. But now, things were different. He was tired of talking. No one wins a war by talking. No one wins a war with an army of cowards. He had more chances with that twenty man band than with the rest of the... rebellion? Haha. The only thing Drake and the rest were rebelling against was him. Caleb opened his mouth to bite the apple. It was a big, juicy fruit and even if Caleb didn't like apples very much... He heard a sound. Someone was walking through the forest. Caleb put the apple away and stood up with his bow ready. Nearby trees provided a good hiding spot, so Caleb quietly ran there and looked around.
[Enter: Lord Cedric from Tracker's Lair]
Caleb couldn't believe his luck. Lord Cedric, Phobos' right-hand man and the best liar in the castle. All alone, and from the looks of it, weak and tired. A miracle, no less. Caleb prepared an arrow, but the target was still too deep in the woods. Too many obstacles. The wound on Cedric's body was gone, without leaving a trace. It was probably the princess' doing and Caleb couldn't help but hate her for that. But even so, the snake was barely crawling forward. Caleb smiled. A minute or two and a strong link will be broken, freeing Elyon and probably the rebels too. Caleb was eager to spill Cedric's blood. Despite his efforts to stay calm, the rebel leader was trembling like a leaf with excitement. It won't help him to hit the target. But with Cedric being as weak as he was, even that wasn't a problem. Besides, maybe his enthusiasm even help, guide his hand, like in fairytales. Cedric was almost within shooting range. The snake stopped and sniffed the air, but the wind was on Caleb's side. Cedric looked around suspiciously - obviously he felt something - and transformed into his human form. Caleb's smile got even wider. I probably look like an idiot. He thought. Cedric's skin wasn't thick anymore. He was weak and slow, unable to notice anything. Staggering with every step. A truly pitiful sight. Caleb aimed at his heart. His hands got sweaty and his forehead was burning. Everything around became distant and shapeless. Only him, Cedric and the arrow remained. The sounds faded away, but Caleb could hear his own heartbeat better than ever. Soon. Very soon. Cedric stumbled and fell down on the ground. At the same time, Caleb's fingers released the arrow. The messenger of death flew over Cedric and disappeared. What the hell? The rebel leader almost fainted. He quickly prepared another arrow. How could this happen? "Pure luck." He whispered. "It was pure luck." Cedric stood up. Obviously, he didn't hear anything. There was still plenty of time. But seeing Cedric as weak as he was, Caleb couldn't do it the second time. It was somehow too disgusting. Too many citizens and rebels died this way. He didn't want to do something so low. Caleb threw the bow away and lay down, pressing his head against cold grass.
[Exit: Lord Cedric to the Courtyard]
After a few minutes of self-hatred, he finally stood up and looked around. Cedric was gone. So was a chance of easy victory. So was Caleb's pride. Still, he had a mission. So the rebel leader picked up his weapons and backpack. The apple was still there, waiting to be eaten. Caleb squashed it and went on, hating the entire world, but mostly himself.
[Exit: Caleb to the Main Gate]
