"You've got to be kidding me." Caleb said, staring at Phobos. "It just can't be that easy!"
Caleb expected this moment to be different, something that would happen in the very end, in the zenith of the conflict. And instead, it just happened like this... quite dishonorably too. It wasn't the final battle, with the sky turning red and the ground getting covered in flames. No screams, no agony. No flowing rivers of blood. No scent of despair and defeat. Not even a single wound. No sight of your friends dying. Just a simple action - and it's all over. It can't be. The rebel leader approached the fallen prince and kept staring at his body with an indescribable expression. The body wasn't moving, and Caleb could easily see the arrow pierce through Phobos's chest.
It was very quiet - the rebels left the field, the fake guardians were no longer flying in the sky. For some reason, larvaks settled down and didn't attack Caleb. No sound, just the wind blowing through - and his own heartbeat.
[Enter: Vathek from the Mountains]
Vathek entered the field just in time to witness the impossible. Just like Caleb, he stopped in an instant and observed the sight for a while. The black became white - et vice versa. Vathek dropped his shortsword (big enough to serve as a claymore for a regular soldier) and blinked several times, just in case. Then, to make sure, he approached Phobos.
Caleb turned around and saw Vathek. Under regular circumstances, he'd have jumped and attacked the brute, but now he just didn't feel like it. "Your prince is dead." He said. "You might as well start crying." "He's not my prince." Vathek replied, feeling unreal. "I came here with an intention to kill him. But it seems I'm too late." "And you expect me to believe that?" Caleb raised his sword, but didn't do anything else. "No, I don't." Vathek sighed. "But it doesn't make a difference now, does it?" "I guess not." Some silence. "So..." Vathek broke it. "Is he really dead?"

A large pool of blood flows from the wound. [Scout: Enter from Valley of Light] Scout: *sees Caleb shoot the prince* How...? Why would they do such a thing? We were about to have peace. So why...? Traitorous bastards! He quickly goes back the way he came. [Scout: Exit to Valley of Light] Seeing that the path is clear, the rebels continue on. [Rebel Army: Exit to Valley of Light]

Vathek picked up a stick from the ground and gently rolled the prince over, still fearing that it might be a trick. But nothing happened. "My prince?" He said slowly. "Is everything alright?" Well, aside from the arrow wound, of course. No answer. Vathek scratched his head. "Guess he's really dead." He turned at Caleb "What should we do with the body?" "Burn it I say." Caleb answered. "Or better yet, we'll drag it across the city - to show people that it's all over." "Sounds like a plan." Vathek nodded. "But still, it's kind of dishonorable. That's what Phobos would do." "At least we'll take him to the town square." Caleb said. "Oh, and by the way - I still don't trust you." "There's no need to." Vathek smiled sadly. "Even if I was lying, now that Phobos is dead, it doesn't matter anymore." "What about Lord Cedric?" Caleb spat on the ground. "Meridian is still filled with filth." "Cedric won't accomplish anything alone." Vathek looked at the sky. "He doesn't have his own ambition, nor does he have a code." "We'll see." Caleb replied. "In any case, he'll try to avenge the fallen prince." "And he'll get crushed. Half of the soldiers will betray him as soon as they'll learn about this."
Caleb looked at Vathek again. "Alright. Let's say I trust you. Then go get a wheelbarrow or something. I'll guard the body." "What about the rebels?" Vathek asked. "Where are they now?" "To hell with the rebels!" Caleb clenched his fists. "All it took was a single trick and they've become complete idiots. They'll probably blame me for doing this. It seems I was the only one true rebel to begin with." "Okay..." Vathek said doubtfully. "But you started the rebellion for the people, you need them." "Not now. Now I don't need advice." Caleb turned away. "I need a wheelbarrow. If the 'rebels' will dare to crawl here, we'll find out what they think." "Alright. I'm going." Vathek said and left.
[Exit: Vathek to the Castle's Courtyard]
Now, that he finally was alone (aside from Phobos's body and Wali, writhing around), Caleb breathed out something heavy. He didn't like the way things were going. It almost seemed like a trap - the prince tried to save the rebels and now Caleb came and killed him for that. The rebel leader knew that every mob - even the rebels - consists mainly of idiots, easy to manipulate. It was sad, but it was true. He couldn't even trust his own people anymore. Right now, in the whole world and beyond, there was only one he could trust. But she was so very far away... Caleb fell all alone - cold and tired.
"In essence, that's your fault." Caleb told Phobos's body. "I better make sure you're truly dead, freak." With those words, he grabbed his sword and tried to cut Phobos's head off, but at the last moment, the sword slipped from his hands and fell on the ground. Caleb didn't bother to pick it up. Instead, he approached Wali and kicked him. "Get up. Explain yourself."

Wali: "d**n it, man! First you drag me to that stupid ball, & now you're kicking me? What the hell is wrong with you?"
Blunk silently watches from a distance.

"Yeah, right." Caleb replied. "What's wrong with me. Let's see... Maybe - but that's just maybe - I don't like the fact that none of you tried to kill Phobos when you had the best chance in the world! What's wrong with you, that's the question! Get up!"

Wali: "Last I checked, Phobos wasn't at the ball." *stands up* "And you'd have been pretty stupid to try kill him if he was there. It was declared a day of peace after all."

"There could be no peace as long as he was alive." Caleb replied. "What, have you already forgotten how many are dead because of that fiend?"

"Go? Where?" Caleb asked. "To the 'rebels' camp? I don't think so. First, I need a... pal of mine to come back with a wheelbarrow. We have to let everyone share the joy."

[Enter: Lord Cedric and Vathek from the Castle's Courtyard]
"Well, here we are." Vathek said, putting the wheelbarrow down. "It's about time." Cedric replied. "You know, the sight of you carrying that thing was almost funny enough to make me enjoy the walk, but still... So, why here?" "Take a look!" Vathek pointed at something. Unfortunately, that something was behind Caleb and Wali, so Cedric couldn't see it. But he could see the rebels clearly enough. "Oh my!" He smiled. "The rebels! Vathek, and here I thought you betrayed us!" Caleb heard the voice and turned around. He saw Cedric and quickly picked up his sword from the ground. "You're not planning to play with that, are you?" Cedric laughed, turning into a snake. "You'll just get hurt." "I didn't get hurt when I killed your prince." Caleb answered, running towards Cedric. "I don't think I'll get hurt now." "What? What are you talking..." and then Cedric saw it - Phobos's lifeless body, laying on the ground with an arrow lodged in his chest. The lightning struck him. Cedric felt as if something too big to fit in his head would be trying to get in and make his head explode. The surprise was so strong, it turned into pain and almost crippled his body. That gave Caleb enough time to reach Cedric and strike him once, cutting deep into his body. "Stop it!" Vathek grabbed Caleb and disarmed him, then threw the blade away."I didn't bring him here to get killed!" "I knew... you were lying..." Caleb said, trying to escape Vathek's grasp."You're still a pawn of Phobos." "Shut up." Vathek replied. "I just don't want unnecessary bloodshed."
But it was a bit too late for that, because Cedric's mind finally managed to understand what was going on - and the stunning surprise quickly turned into uncontrollable anger. He growled out loud and the sound echoed throughout the whole forest. Then the snake grabbed Vathek and Caleb together and threw them somewhere far away with all his strength. They landed and remained there, trashed one onto another. Caleb still tried to crawl from under Vathek, but his body refused to listen.
"Phobos!" Cedric approached the fallen prince and carefully raised his body from the ground. "My prince!" Phobos wasn't breathing. His heart wasn't beating either, so Cedric growled again. He looked at Wali, who was standing nearby, grabbed him and threw him too. Caleb saw him coming and tried to avoid the damage, but it was too late.
Cedric put the prince on his shoulder and rushed to the castle, ignoring his bleeding wound.
