Thank you Ellie & Susan! Don't worry I like fashionably late. Twas a photo of my actual cake: i150.photobucket.com/albums/s82/guardianlover486/IMG_2609.jpgNope I never got out of that 'I want a character on my cake' phase. I love Disney and I'm trying to become an animator so it's all fitting. It's an ice cream cake.

I'm trying to become an animator so it's all fitting. Awesome. Me too. I don't think I'm all that great at it though... Though I do have the 'cutting corners' part down.

So happy to have found a fellow animator. I don't think I'm all that great at it but I try. Hopefully someday something will click and I'll get better. No Susan I haven't and won't post anything anytime soon.

Now, if we want to really confuse everyone else, we should start talking about Squash and Stretch, Anticipation, Keyframes, Straight-ahead animation and Timing and Spacing. But in all seriousness though. Have you ever heard of 'the Animator's Survival Kit' by Richard Williams? It's a really awesome book on animation basics and advanced techniques and whatnot and is probably worth checking out sometime.

Haha, YES! Squash and stretch & anticipation! Now you're talking my language. Right now I'm having a b*tch of a time with the anticipation part in a pencil test I am doing. It looks awkward. I've most definitely heard of the Animators Survival Kit! I downloaded a PDF version of it though I really want to buy an actual copy. I've heard of the DVDs that go along with the book as well but it cost around $1000 USD for all of them. Much too pricey. It seems like that book is the norm in a lot of universities and is used as a textbook so I might as well pick up an actual copy now. I have another book that I use right now, the name of it escapes me now, but it's by Eric Goldberg who animated the Genie in Aladdin.

I'm having a lot of trouble with getting characters and stuff look consistent between frames, mostly because I completely forego any skeletal structures and stick figures when drawing (That's completely backwards of me, I know...) Concerning Williams' book, pretty much the same here. Except some teachers at school use some fragments of the DVD's for their lessons and, to that end, have their content available for access on their servers for students to view. I still think some actual copies of both book and DVD would be nice though, especially since they're highly informative. I'll have to check out and see if I can find out which other book you're talking about.

Yeah, I had a bit of a problem with consistency with one of my first projects, heh. Somehow my character looked completely different by the end of the animation. I haven't even tried many complicated characters yet though. I will definitely try to get the book sometime soon. Whether the university I go to (if I even get accepted) has the DVDs readily available remains to be seen though. This is the Eric Goldberg book I was talking about: www.amazon.com/gp/product/1879505975?ie=UTF8&force-full-site=1 It's called Character Animation Crash Course for in case the link doesn't work. I don't have much to base it on but it seems pretty good so far. I was attracted by the pictures of the Disney characters inside. But my mom and I did some research on some animation books and this one seemed like one of the better ones.

Oh my Irmz and Elz be nerding out on the animationz. Since everyone is plugging books here's one I own: www.amazon.com/How-Write-Animation-Jeffrey-Scott/dp/1585674281/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1321505505&sr=1-1This is quite an informative tome that gives you the know how on just about everything you need to know on how to put together a script, from the premise to the outline where you work your beats and finally the script itself. The author even bothered to include a script he wrote. He also touches on how to pitch a cartoon. When I nabbed this it wasn't going for the ridiculous price it is now though.
