[Enter: Caleb from the Forest]
Upon reaching the city, Caleb spotted a portion of the run down city wall. In better times it was whole and strong, able to withstand any assault - though the chances of there being one were slim. However, weather, decay and neglect did a splendid job at ruining this once impressive structure. There were holes everywhere and no one bothered to guard them - seeing how there was no obvious threat from the outside.
Caleb approached the wall and sat down, leaning against it. He exhaled deeply, trying to relax. Thanks to the crimson evening sun, the wall cast a long, dark shadow, almost completely concealing his features. No one would have been able to recognize the rebel leader without coming close and no one would bother coming close to what appeared to be a beggar, motionlessly sitting in the dark. Caleb was safe here, even though there was a soldier directly above him, lazily walking atop the wall. He could also spot people here and there, lifelessly walking around with seemingly no purpose.
Caleb sighed. In the past, such a sight would always make his heart burn with conviction and desire to get the world rid of Phobos and his rule. Now, however, he felt too tired to feel anything. The rebellion dragged on for too long, without giving any results. People were desperate and disappointed. They almost lost the will to fight, instead looking up to him and expecting great things from him.
"Weaklings." Caleb spat out with a bitter voice. "I'm the one shouldering the greatest burden here. I'm the one constantly getting beaten and cut up. Betrayed. Manipulated. And still, everything is my fault. I don't even belong..."
He didn't let himself finish the sentence. Such selfish complaints should've been below him. Still, he couldn't help but feel betrayed by the very people he fought for. The rebels. Elyon.
"No, that's wrong." Caleb shook his head. It's just that... Nothing mattered anymore. Everything was getting grey and boring. Meridian. The streets. The people. The rebels. Phobos. Elyon. Vathek. Cedric. Pain. Blood. All grey and indifferent. Only one thing mattered to him right now. And it was so... simple. So selfish. There was no room for that now. Maybe there will never be.
"Even so..." Caleb continued. Somehow he couldn't form a coherent thought without speaking the first words aloud. His mind was a mess. "Even so, that's all that matters."
Unable to bear the uneasiness any longer, he stood up and lifted his head, gazing at the horizon. One word escaped his lips.
"Cornelia..."
Then, as if afraid of his lingering feelings, Caleb quickly strode off, not even knowing where to go.
