The night grew even darker than it already was, which triggered Elyon's internal alarmclock. "I'm getting tired..." she yawned. "Shall we go back?"

Cedric transformed back. "Absolutely," he said, gesturing for her to start following him. The clock hit the hour after midnight, and his body was starting to respond to it.

[Enter: Lord Cedric from Elyon's room]
Cedric stormed into the clearing with his almighty speed (which wasn't very impressive), just to find that he got here first.
Great he thought, wiping his sleeves from dust At least she didn't see me running around like a complete idiot.
Cedric sighed - both sadly and with relief - and then gazed into the sky, waiting for Elyon's arrival.

[Enter: Elyon from her room]
It took several minutes for Elyon to find the clearing as well. She was new to the palace's structure and even newer to the surrounding area. But slowly and steadilly, she learned to find everything a little easier every time.
"I'm here, Cedric." She spoke. He could hear how the weight of Phobos' antics was still pressing on her mind. Regardless of her ignorance, she had to be dealt with cautiously...

Cedric looked at Elyon and slightly bowed "My princess, it is good to see you again."
He then felt quite strange, when instead of a liar's self confidence, another feeling slowly filled his heart. "I am actually telling the truth" he thought, looking down. Even if Elyon used to be just an important assignment before, making him proud of himself, it wasn't like that anymore. Cedric actually enjoyed Elyon's company more than anyone else's. It was difficult to understand that and even more difficult to admit, and sometimes Cedric still hated everyone and everything, but...
"Don't think about it" he thought, putting his everlasting, warm and confident smile on his face. Then he approached Elyon and looked into her eyes.
"Well then... Should we continue the... shape-shifting," Cedric said quietly "Or maybe there is something else you'd like to try? Something you always wanted to do, perhaps?"

Elyon sighed. "No. Shape-shifting's good." she said, jokingly adding: "Unless you can teach me how to look inside Phobos' head. That way I might understand why he's acting so bizzare..."

"Eerr.... In due time perhaps." Cedric laughed - a bit nervously.
Then he sat down on a nearby rock, leaving some space for Elyon to sit down too - if only she wanted it, of course.
"Listen, princess, before we continue..." Cedric started slowly, trying to sound as serious as he could. "That is, before we get any deeper into magic, there is one very important thing I must tell you."
Cedric stopped smiling and continued "There are many ways to learn magic. Some people learn from books, others - by making horrible sacrifices. Some people embrace nature and receive many powers from its endless mysteries. Some people simply have talent and they don't need to learn as much."
Cedric looked at Elyon and continued "Your brother has a lot of talent, it makes things easier for him, but he still keeps reading books and performing rituals - day after day - to gain more and more power. It's like he's absorbing every glimpse of power in sight."
And that's exactly what he's going to do to you, Elyon Cedric shook his head nervously and kept talking "But doing that is often a mistake. Absorbing power like a sponge doesn't always lead you to gaining an understanding about it. Nothing good comes out of being forceful - at least in this case."
The sound of birds chirping filled the air around them and Cedric slowly relaxed, starting to speak more freely "That's why I don't want you taking the same way your brother did. You see, I'm not very talented in magic - and I never studied it too, but still I can use a wide variety of spells - and I gained all that just by walking around, noticing the surroundings, listening and understanding things."
"My princess, you are much more talented in magic than I am - and... I believe, even more talented than your brother. With that, you don't need to read books. You don't even need to learn from me. Of course, I'll be directing you, showing you what can be done with that dormant power of yours. But it's not like you'll be learning from me. You'll simply be trying to understand - awaken the power within."
Cedric got excited and stood up, putting his hands on Elyon's shoulders. "And no one knows how to do it except you." he said very quietly. His eyes were burning with a green flame - and his hands were shaking. "That's why when I want you to shape shift, it's not like you have to follow my instructions. Just understand that it's already within your power and find the best way yourself."
Quite a nice speech a voice in Cerdic's head said You're making progress with your... mission.
Cedric remembered Elyon's fate and the flame in his eyes got replaced by cold, dead stone. His face turned pale and his hands unwillingly started crushing Elyon's shoulders.

"Well... Okay..." Elyon replied, hesitantly. Talk about drawn-out dramatic speeches. It seemed like everyone around her was just jumping for the chance to give her one of those... Of course, this one came from Cedric, so the princess did her best to understand what he was actually saying... Suddenly, Elyon noticed how her shoulders starting aching. "Ow! Cedric... You're hurting me!"

Cedric quickly pulled his arms away "I'm sorry, princess." he said in a seemingly calm voice, still breathing deeply.
That was a stupid way to let his emotions overwhelm him and Cedric knew that. He was usually calm and self centered, rarely giving away his true mood. However, this case was a bit different. But it wasn't important now.
"Anyway..." Cedric tried to smile, but instead grinned like a clown. d**n. "Did you understand what I was trying to tell you? It's actually pretty simple and I didn't need to preach around that much - it's just more fun this way, hahaha... Ahem."
"Very simply put, it's not like it used to be in your school in... Heatherfield. Here there are no teachers, just... a friend of yours, no books except the ones Phobos is keeping locked somewhere. And, more importantly - there are no... best buddies of yours, to bring you down."
Cedric couldn't help but grin evilly, so he quickly turned away. Oh, how he hated the guardians.
"In Meridian it's all up to you."
Although it's not quite true, because obviously right now Phobos is surely observing your progress and watching over me, ready to punish me at the first sign of failure, and watching over everything like some huge, bloated spider, twitching his mandibles and crawling all around. That's why I serve him, by the way.
"So" Cedric looked back at Elyon and smiled warmly. "Try shape-shifting now. Just... understand that you can do it and that's all you need."

Cedric slowly sighed "I guess I'm talking too much, princess. I can't help it, everyone likes to feel important from time to time. Besides, I don't even know the best way to teach you."
He paused for a moment and continued "I'll try to describe the best way. Close your eyes and calm down. Imagine your heart as a power core - or something like that. Then try to draw power from there and make it flow through your veins - and also emerge from your body and cover your skin. At the same time, imagine the shape you want to take. Pick a simpler one at first, a shape that resembles you. Maybe one of your friends, I don't know."
"That's how I do it," Cedric added and smiled "Come on, try it. And don't forget the things I told you."

"They're not my friends..." Elyon remarked, looking away and clenching her fist... "They're just a group of liars, who kept me away from the truth for as long as I can remember!" And they should pay...
She actually didn't want to go around and start shapeshifting. She'd much rather learn a few ways to do away with a group of guardians, or a certain respectless prince... But now that she's already said she'd do it, she really should do it.
Elyon closed her eyes, and thought hard about becomming somebody else. Not really certain who to imperonate, she decided to try and see if she could simply make herself look older. I mean, if the girls can pull that off, why couldn't she?
A few moments passed before Elyon felt confident enough to open her eyes and see the results... Nothing. It was like the flight tutorial all over again... "Great. Looks like I fail again... Are you sure I can do stuff like flying and shapeshifting in the first place?"

"Well, " Cedric said quietly and a new - nasty - idea struck his mind. "It's true, shapeshifting isn't a very easy art to master... We can try something simpler first. It may sound surprising, but if I'd have to choose a simpler thing, I'd choose destructive magic - it's actually easy to learn... but dangerous too, because many become corrupted by such power."
Cedric looked at Elyon and smiled "Although I'm sure such a thing wouldn't happen to a heart as pure as yours, princess."
"Things like throwing fire around." he continued "We can always try that. It'd be simple - I'd summon a flare and first, you'd only need to direct it with your mind. Then, you'd learn to conjure fire yourself and use it as you please. Also, if you'd learn that... I'm sure no one would dare manipulate you ever again. "
"So, should we give it a try?"

She had trouble hiding her gleeful smile. Was Cedric the most amazing person ever or what? It's almost as if he could read her mind. "I'd love to."

"Great!" Cedric clapped his hands, satisfied. "Let's begin, then."
He raised his right arm and after a couple of seconds, and a bright flame burst from his fingers. Cedric smiled - he always liked doing that.
"Now," he said "All you have to do is move the fire. It's best to use your hand - aim at the fire, then imagine your inner power emerging through your palm and try directing it. See that rock over there? Try and hit it with this flame. And... I could explain more, but it's always best to find a way yourself. You'll manage, I'm sure."
Cedric chuckled and added "Don't turn my hair into a torch."

"I won't." Elyon replied, eager to take control of the flame. Sticking out her right arm and index finger, she was quick to drag it out of Cedric's grasp. For a moment, Elyon gently held the fire between her hands, it's light being reflected in her eyes as she looked at it. Then, after having it make a few graceful circles and arcs around her body, she tossed it at the rock Cedric pointed out with such a ferociousness that the boulder immediatly shattered into small shards and pebbles. "Nothing to it!" she added. Although Elyon's smile was a victorious one, her eyes and voice were instead filled with impatience. "So what's next?"
