"Oh, my prince!" Vathek gulped. "What are you doing... I-I mean, what a wonderful suprise! I didn't expect to see your majesty here!"
This wasn't in Vathek's plan.

[Enter: Elyon from the clearing]
Elyon left the woods, still full of glee. She really wanted to see how Vathek, with his rebellious attitude, would manage himself when faced with the man most rebels feared as much as they feared Phobos...
She remained quite a distance away, as to not attract much attention - not to mention make some use of the night's dark cloak. Her ears got quite skilled at hearing the past few days... She could hear them talk perfectly, despite the distance...

Cedric looked back at Phobos with a surprise. "Indeed, my lord, such a wonderful sighting!"
Then, avoiding Phobos's glare, he turned his attention to Vathek and asked him. "You wished to see me, old friend?" "Yes. Yes, in fact I did!" Vathek nodded. "You see, a warrior of my power needs tasks. You know, so that he would be busy and all. The allmighty prince here gave me some work, but right now we're... eeeerr... short on supplies to.. continue! Yeah! But I still need some work to do. And, seeing how busy you looked in the past few days, I figured I'd lend you - my best friend - a hand."
After this lie that Vathek came up with while walking to the castle, he looked back into the shadows of the trees and then into Phobos's deep eyes.
"Help me?" Cedric raised his left eyebrow. "With what?" "For example... With your... task... that involves Elyon."

Phobos: "Normally when a person goes out to the forest to chop wood, he usually brings the wood with him upon his return." *glances at Vathek's obviously empty hands* "Or were you so eager to repair the throne room, that you left the castle without an axe?"

If I would have taken an axe, I would chop your head off with it. Vathek couldn't help but let that thought slip. But then he coughed and said. "My religious beliefs... Won't allow me to cut tres, sir."
That was a complete nonsense. Vathek took a deep breath. It wasn't his task to please Phobos now. He had to open Elyon's eyes. So he tried again, addressing the air between Phobos and Cedric. "A soldier of my capabilities would be of much more use in a more important task, than gathering resources. Cedric, you've been having a rough time, I believe. That's why I want to help you." "And how would you help me?" Cedric smiled sarcastically. "I teach Elyon magic, she learns from me. You, my friend, can't help me in any way." "Enough with the lies, Cedric." Vathek lost his patience. "I want to help you - as a friend. I'm not talking about what you're pretending to do. I'm talking about what you're doing." "And what am I doing?" Cedric asked with innocent eyes. "Being a friend to a friend of mine?" "Didn't you just say that that friend of yours was an arrogant brat who gets on your nerves?" Cedri was surprised. He didn't expect Vathek to speak in such a manner. "Well. Now that may be true, but..." "Yes!" Vathek shouted. "You did say that!"
Elyon Vathek thought Can you hear this?

Phobos: Telekinesis instantly slams Vathek against the castle gate. Phobos: "Don't you ever speak of my sister in that manner again!" *walks toward the disgruntled soldier* "She is your princess, the future queen of Meridian. You are to treat her with the respect that she deserves." *tightly grabs Vathek's jaw with his right hand* "Do you understand?"

"Ouch." Vathek somehow grinned with his bleeding lips. "I'm sorry, my lord. I don't know what came over me!"
Beat me all you want, tyrant, it isn't my life that's important here!
Cedric observed the scene with cold eyes, but his mind was swirling with thoughts. Why was Vathek so happy just because Cedric told the truth? Maybe... Maybe the brute already got in touch with Elyon?
And from that moment on, Cedric became very careful.

From the shadows, Elyon just observed the scene. Not interfering with anything... Just looking how much evidence Vathek could get out of the two...

Phobos: "I suggest you choose your words more carefully from now on."
He steps away & lets Vathek fall to the floor.
Phobos: "Cause if I ever hear you speak of her in such manner again..."

Cedric looked at Vathek with a strange, indescribable expression. "The prince is right, I don't know what came over you! I may have said such a mean thing about princess thing when I was tired and in really bad mood - to be honest, my head is splitting open this very moment. But there's no way I'd even think such a thing normally. Elyon means a lot to me, you know it!"
Knowing that Phobos will probably kill him for this, Vathek smiled and asked "Yeah, sure it does. As a powersource, am I right?" "Powersource?" Cedric laughed "I'm afraid I have no idea what are you talking about! I was talking about our... friendship."
As much as Cedric tried to disguise the strange tone in his voice, the last word from his mouth did sound strange and unnatural.
"Friendship? Friendship!" Vathek screamed like a madman, completely losing it. "I thought you and I shared a friendship, yet you refuse to be honest with me!" Vathek's voice sounded honest and Cedric started doubting his suspicions. "Vathek, my friend. Calm down, you're just having a really bad day." "Yes, yes I am!" Vathek was spitting out blood. "I'm sick and tired of having to accept these lies... live them... every single day!" "What?" Cedric didn't have an answer for such an emotional whine. "You heard me right, lord Cedric. You're not telling me the truth!" "What are you talking about?" Cedric stared at him with curiosity. "You sound like someone who's completely nuts, Vathek." "Say it, Cedric!" Vathek was desperately trying to get out of Phobos's grasp. "Say that you hate her! Say that you're using her! Say that you'll kill her! Be honest with me! Tell me, how much you despise her! How much do you want to spit on her! To laugh at her!" "That is enough!" Cedric screamed. The pressure of sleepless nights and days full of mental strain took effect and he became nervous. "I don't hate her! I don't despise her! It's true that I liked her more, when she was still so... so... When she used to smile kindly! When she was more open to life and regarded me as a friend, not a servant. We sure had some good times back then...To me it was...Quite a new experience. I was ... nevermind. I used to have more fun back then than I do now. But that's all. That Is All!!!
Cedric pretended to be too frustrated to speak, turned away both from Phobos and Vathek and entered the forest, not looking behind. The emotional speech was a part of his plan - both to shut Vathek up and to ensure that in the future things'll go his way.
[Exit: Lord Cedric to the Clearing]
"You liar!" Vathek tried to stop him with his screams. "Come back and face me!"

Um... Vathek was released in my last post. Nothing is holding him. Phobos: *sighs* What the hell has gotten into them? First Elyon's outbursts, now this! Is the entire castle going mad? "If rebuilding my throne room is too much a task for you to handle, Vathek. I can assign someone else to do it. There no reason for you to taunt Lord Cedric like that." At least Ellie isn't here to see this...

Vathek looked at the prince. Quietly at first. Then he started laughing. Quietly at first. But after that, he began laughing like a complete idiot for quite some time.
"Ehehehe..." Vathek moaned when he finally could stop laughing. "So in the end it's all about replacing roofs, isn't it? I expected to get thrown into the dungeon for this... And now you just... let me go like that? My prince, this is truly merciful." The warrior's voice was full of irony. "You'll have to forgive my outburst, prince." Vathek knelt to the ground. "I'll see to the roof right away."
But this is the last task I'm doing for you, tyrant. Vathek looked back at the prince before leaving. Then he observed the trees, hoping - and both fearing to spot Elyon among the shadows. But it was in vain.

Phobos: *glares* That fool's lucky he's an old friend of Cedric's! If I didn't need the snake's cooperation with Elyon, he'd be dead by now. ... Speaking of Elyon... He glances at the forest, then quickly walks away. [Phobos: Exit to Miranda's Chamber]

Elyon stood there for another minute, obscured by the shadows... Vathek failed to convince her of Cedric's evil intentions, but much to her own surprise, he did manage to live up to his promise... He did manage to give her new insights in how Cedric feels...
Quickly, she snapped back to reality... "Cedric!" He went back into the forest, no doubt looking for her... As fast as her legs could carry her, Elyon ran back to the clearing...
